The Severn Gardens- developed concept

Concept The main concept for The Severn Gardens is a thematic journey for users to explore and wonder through. Inspired by the natural beauty of the River Severn and the landmarks it passes and creates, the site will feature seven gardens (A play on the word Severn of course), each one with a different narrative, exploring the culture and heritage of the River and the sites of interest it passes. One of the big ideas is to collect rainwater in order to replicate the natural patterns of river movement. The site will be dug out to become a giant sink, with excess cut being using to make mound islands. The site will have a gradual fall from north to south. This will allow rain water to feed into swales and fill an attenuation pond at the south of the site, acting as an estuary back into the River Severn off-site. The purpose of the gardens will be mainly ecological, with native trees and a biodiverse mix of herbaceous and reed bed planting, allowing the site to be a heaven for wildlife, but the site will also be a place of rest, education and play for younger generations.
